You may hold the goal of attaining a partnership within the company you're working for or maybe your goal might be that you're going to make an attempt to be more confident and self-assertive in your daily life.  However large or tiny, all goals are as equally as significant. For those of us who are depleted in self-confidence or may have low self-esteem, goal setting is an essential tool to acquiring self-confidence and getting back charge of your life. Whatever your reason is for setting your goals, there are a few points you should always study before hurrying headlong into the process and setting goals which are guaranteed to trip you up at the 1st hurdle.

Make Your Goals a Challenge ....... but within reason
There is absolutely no point in setting an unrealistic goal that would be literally impossible to accomplish within a specified amount of time, whilst the goal needs to be ambitious and challenging it also needs to be attainable. The entire point to goal setting, however big or small is to achieve a feeling of accomplishment and self-worth, if your goal isn'tgoal setting technique picture within reach realistically then you've very little probability of achieving it and this will have the totally opposite effect of what goal setting is for.  In other words, make sure that you are setting realistic goals.

Set specific goals
Ensure that you are specific when setting your goals. The best goal setting technique will split your goals down into smaller more easily gettable goals initially. For instance, if your goal is to lose weight, then rather than just saying that you wish to slim down, stipulate an amount of weight that you may realistically anticipate to be able to lose in the designated amount of time.

Always give yourself a deadline
Your goal setting technique should include making sure you set yourself a deadline in which to attain your goal. If you haven't got a particular date for achieving your goal then you'll in all probability be always putting your goal off and ultimately never accomplish it. By setting yourself a realistic time limit in which to accomplish your goal you'll stand a far greater chance of succeeding and the rewards to your self-esteem will be tremendous.

Keep a written list of your Goals and Achievements
By keeping a written record of your goals, you'll be able to see distinctly what you accomplished in the past and what your expectations are for the future. Keep a detailed diary and separate goals into categories such as those goals that you want to achieve in the short term and also those which will be obtainable across a longer term.

Only Set goals that are credible and believable
You should be careful to only set goals which you yourself consider are credible as there is just no point in setting goals for the sake of it if you don't frankly believe that you can attain them. Think carefully about any goals you would like to make before setting them for yourself. Ask yourself questions such as, “is this something that is within my capability to accomplish?,” “how much time would this realistically require?” and “can I do this or am I expecting too much?” You have to honestly believe that the goals which you've set for yourself are achievable within the designated amount of time you've afforded yourself or you will lack the motivation that is necessary to achieve them.
